Only poetry cannot be translated well.

Only poetry cannot be translated well.
Why is it diagrammed /TW-->P?

I thought that with cannot we pick one idea, negate it and make it the necessary. So if I chose poetry to be negated, why can it not be TW-->/P. Some help would be great. Thank you!

    There is a group 2 indicator (only) and a group 4 indicator (cannot) in that sentence. So you can use either one, but generally it's easier to use group 4 indicators as negations and use the other one as the logical indicator.

    If a written work cannot be translated well then it must be poetry. Why? Because only poetry cannot be translated well. /TW --> P

    Hi

    Thank for the replies. I'm finding it hard to see how /TW-->P and TW-->/P are contrapositives of each other.
    /TW->P (/P->TW)
    TW->/P (P->/TW)

    So if there there are two logical operators (Only and cannot) I should use only as the necessary indicator and cannot as just a negation?

    Thanks!

    Oh sorry I was not reading that correctly... You're right that's not the contrapositive... Read @nye8870's comment above... And yes to your final question...

    I think the difficulty is that it’s a bizarre statement.

    Classic Group 2: http://classic.7sage.com/lesson/basic-translation-group-2/

    Th “only” takes precedence over the “cannot."

    /TW-->P (If it’s not translated well, then it’s poetry)
    or
    /P-->TW (If it’s not poetry, then it’s translated well)

    Or because this is an “or” logical configuration, you can think of it as "writing is either poetry or translated well.” (http://classic.7sage.com/lesson/not-both-v-or-truth-tables/)
