Chrome is what I use, not a bad option. Are you sure you didn't accidentally hit the volume switch? If it's x'd out, it means it's muted. You can also try clearing your cache: http://classic.7sage.com/clear-cache/

I think it would freak a lot of people out. If you personally want a countdown, the website you mentioned works well for it. Calendar notifications also works.

Super jealous of everyone mentioning Avocado... I love the stuff, but the local supermarkets here only get a certain kind that are stringy and gross. Makes me want to move back to Montreal just so I can gorge on good Avocados.
