Oh good question. I asked something similar. I am in same boat. I believe I was told that upgrading would give me 3 additional months, but we have to contact @"Dillon A. Wright" to make sure that takes affect.

You will see on the applications it asks for current address, and permanent address, and for how long each is good. They also ask to where do you want mail sent. Which is your state of residency, etc.
